The healing journey of a breast cancer patient. When I started this blog, the purpose was to update my friends about what happened to me. Little did I know that blogging has its own therapeutic effect, and has become part of my healing process. Now, a friend even joined me in this journey and agreed to co-author this blog.(YS)

Sleepless n hyper active brain
I think my brain is in hyperactive mode after first radio session.
It lasted only few minutes. There were rays beaming on my brain(could feel it with my eyes closed).
The positive thought - i was being blessed with super power on the star trek space ship.
The neutral thought - those radio wave will penetrate and kill some cells, good and bad cells indiscriminately, after that, i shall be fine.
The negative thought - i was fixed on a flat table with a mask and bombarded with "bullets".
Thoughts can be very powerful, so I now hold the believe that everything is going well, and my brain is just being activated by the therapy.

Mr. Logosh was 37 years old when he suffered a stroke. It was a month after knee surgery and we never found a real reason other than trivially high cholesterol and smoking.
ReplyDeleteSometimes medicine is like that: bad things happen, seemingly without sufficient reasons.
In the ER I found him aphasic, able to understand perfectly but unable to get a single word out, and with no movement of the right face, arm, and leg. We gave him the only treatment available for stroke, tissue plasminogen activator, but there was no improvement. He went to the ICU unchanged.
A follow up CT scan showed that the dead brain tissue had filled up with blood. As the body digested the dead brain tissue, later scans showed a large hole in the left hemisphere.
Although I despaired, I comforted myself by looking at the overlying cortex. Here the damage was minimal and many neurons still survived. Still, I mostly despaired. It is a tragedy for an 80-year-old to spend life’s remainder as an aphasic hemiplegic. The tragedy grows when a young man looks towards decades of mute immobility. But you can never tell with early brain injuries to the young. I was yoked to optimism. After all, I’d treated him.
The next day Mr. Logosh woke up and started talking. Not much at first, just ‘yes’ and ‘no.’ Then ‘water,’ ‘thanks,’ ‘sure,’ and ‘me.’ We eventually sent him to rehab, barely able to speak, still able to understand.
One year later he came back to the office with an odd request. He was applying to become a driver and needed my clearance, which was a formality. He walked with only a slight limp, his right foot a bit unsure of itself. His voice had a slight hitch, as though he were choosing his words carefully…………………………..

Let's hold on to the positive thoughts... "blessed with super power on the star trek space ship"... you make me smile. If one day I need this treatment for myself I will remember this.
ReplyDeleteCan love be sent together with these rays? I'm sure it can. Try to feel it, too, with your eyes closed... Elisabet.
One of the images I used when I was undergoing radiation therapy was to imagine the invisible rays as a river of light...and very often that river of light would turn into a pearly pinky white stream gushing and flowing, and I'd imagine it flowing and nuetralising and sweeping away cancer cells as it flooded my body...:-) I too believe that thoughts are incredibly powerful in our healing process, so I'm happy to know that you're staying conscious of their nature and the way they affect you. Sending you a stream of love and blessings, Susanna
